Twelve suspected Naxals and a Maoist supporter were today arrested from separate locations in insurgency-hit Sukma district Chhattisgarh.
"Seven cadres were nabbed from the forests under Chintagufa police station area," Sukma Additional Superintendent of Police Santosh Singh told PTI.
A joint squad of Central Reserve Police Force's (CRPF) 150th battalion, CRPF's elite wing- CoBRA (Commando Battalion for Resolute Action) 206th battalion, District Reserve Group (DRG) and district force was carrying out a search operation in the interiors of Chintagufa, located around 500 kms away from the state capital Raipur, the ASP said.
While they were cordoning off Tokanpalli forests- a Naxal hotbed, they rounded up seven suspects, who, during their interrogation admitted to their involvement with the outlawed Naxal movement, he said.
They were involved in an attack on security forces near Temelwada in Chintagufa, in which a jawan was killed and another injured in January, 2013, he added.
In another incident, two rebels and their supporter who were involved in incidents of looting passenger buses and stealing twowheelers, were nabbed from Konta police station limits, the ASP said.
Besides, one rebel was arrested each from Bhejji, Tongpal and Chintalnar police station areas, he said.
"All of them were involved in incidents of murder and torching vehicle engaged in road construction works in the region," he added.
