132 cartons of smuggled liquor seized in Noida

As many as 132 cartons of illegal liquor was seized and 12 persons arrested in connection with the seizure here, officials said today.
The District Excise Depatment, in a joint operation with the police, seized 132 cartons of illegal foreign liquor meant for distribution to voters, and arrested 12 liquor smugglers in the last two days, District Excise Officer Kuldeep Yadav said.
In today's operation, 3 cartons were seized from Dankaur area, one carton from Surajpur area and one carton from Delhi border area, and seven persons were arrested, he said.
"On interrogation, it was revealed that supply was meant for elections. The agents were storing smuggled liquor in Noida for distribution during elections in Gautam Buddha Nagar, Ghaziabad and Bulandshahar," he said, adding that efforts were on to seal the borders to check smuggling of liquor.

"We have activated and expanded our information network in villages and sectors. Liquor mafias may have been storing liquor in sectors and later take it for distribution in rural areas," Yadav said.
