The 14-year-old Chandan, who had been undergoing cancer treatment at AIIMS and had become an Indian Air Force fighter pilot for a day, succumbed to the disease after a long and losing battle.
The boy, who passed away yesterday, had nurtured a dream to become a fighter pilot one day.
The Indian Air Force gave wings to his dream and he "achieved his wings" at Air Force Station Ambala on his birthday November 14.
"We are very saddened to learn that young Chandan, who had been battling cancer for some time, is no more amongst us. It is a sad coincidence that he had to die of cancer on World Cancer Day," Air Force chief Arup Raha said in his condolence message.
Chandan was a brave boy and a fighter, in that he was very keen to live his dream of being a fighter pilot, despite probably being aware of his ailment, he said.
"We were fortunate to have been associated with him and be a part of his dream, albeit for a short time. His cheerfulness and deep desire to follow his dream inspired us all," the Chief said.
