Five persons have been arrested in connection with the incident that took place late last night, police said.
"The two groups clashed over political rivalry. In the last civic elections, members of one group had got elected, whereas those from the other group had lost the polls," senior inspector M G Waghmare of Hill Line Police station said.
During the clash, some of the accused ran the vehicles over the others, injuring them badly, police said.
According to police, some of the injured have been admitted to a hospital and the situation in the town was peaceful and under control.
The police have registered offences under IPC sections 307 (attempt to murder), 326 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means), 147 (rioting), 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapon), 149 (unlawful assembly) and others and also sections of the Arms Act, police said.
