At least 16 people, including five women and 10 children, were killed today when a truck in which they were traveling veered off the road and plunged into a river in northwest Pakistan.
The victims were traveling in the truck that fell into the Swat river near Kalam in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
At least eight people were injured in the accident and were taken to hospital.
"All of the deceased belonged to the same extended family," a police official said.
Rescue workers reached the site of the accident and started efforts to retrieve the bodies.
Road accidents are common in Pakistan. Most of them are caused by careless driving, bad roads and faulty vehicles.
