Police said three persons died on Tuesday at Ramgopalpur after drinking hooch. Two of them died on the spot and one at night at a hospital in Diamond Harbour. At Madhusudanpur in Kultali area, one person died on Tuesday after drinking hooch the day before.
Sixteen of those who fell ill have been admitted to Diamond Harbour hospital while four have been admitted to Kakdwip hospital, police said.
All the affected are daily wage earners.
