17 die in rain-related incidents in Rajasthan

Seventeen people have died in rain- related incidents during the recent flooding in the state and Rs 68 lakh as compensation has been provided to kin of the deceased, Rajasthan Home, Calamity Relief and Management Minister G C Kataria said today.
More than 1,150 people and hundreds of cattle were saved by timely relief measures taken up in the flood-affected areas in the state, Kataria said after a review meeting.
Seventeen people have died in rain-related mishaps which included lightning and drowning, he said.
Army, NDRF, SDRF, and civil administration have been alerted to meet any exigency that might arise due to heavy rains, he said, adding there should not be any untoward or unpleasant incident due to heavy rains.
Blankets, food items, potable water and tents were being provided to people in flood-affected regions, especially in Jalore, Sanhore, Sirohi, Abu Road and Nagaur, he said.
The District Collectors were also being asked to be alert to meet any natural calamity, he said.
At least 93 per cent of farmers who suffered crop losses in the month of February and March this year have been provided compensation by the state government, Kataria said.
Even farmers whose crop was damaged due to hailstorms in Dausa, Bundi, Barmer, and Pratapgarh have also been given compensation as per the norms, he said.
Relief and Calamity Management Secretary Rohit Kumar said barring eight districts including Dholpur, Karauli, Dausa and Alwar, rainfall was normal in other parts of the state.
