17 kgs of ganja seized by Coast Guard

The Coast Guard today seized 17.05 Kgs of ganja buried in sand off Rameswaram coast in Tamil Nadu.
Acting on a tip off, Coast Guard deployed Hovercraft ACV H-190 which undertook combing operation and unearthed ganja wrapped in brown paper and covered with polythene bags that was buried under sand near Fourth Island off Rameswaram coast, a Coast Guard release said.
The seized drug was handed over to Customs officials, it said.
"It is suspected that the contraband was smuggled from Andhra Pradesh and was intended to be ferried to Sri Lanka. A detailed investigation is being undertaken with assistance of customs, police and Narcotics Control Bureau", it said.
In June 2015, Coast Guard had seized 652 kilograms of Ganja near Dhanushkodi in Tamil Nadu, it said.
