"Four families, consisting of 17 members, were rescued from Birigam village in Qazzigund area of south Kashmir following floods there," a police official said.
He said the families have been evacuated from their homes and lodged in a local panchayat ghar.
Police and army have launched a rescue operation to rescue 19 nomads who are trapped in flood water at Banjarpora in Kulgam district, the official said.
The official said River Jhelum was flowing at 21.3 feet at Sangam in Anantnag district - slightly over the danger mark of 21 feet.
In Srinagar, the river is flowing several feet below the danger mark of 18 feet.
An official of the MeT department said Qazigund received the highest amount of rainfall at 160.2 mm rain since yesterday morning.
Kokernag area recorded 113.5 mm rainfall during this period followed by Pahalgam at 70.4 mm and Srinagar at 52.8 mm, he said.
Traffic across the city was moving at snail's pace due to waterlogging problem.
Electricity supply to some areas has been snapped due to heavy rains.
