Haryana government today disbursed compensation to 42 victims of anti-Sikh riots of 1984.
"Based on the recommendations of the Justice T P Garg Commission, the state government had sanctioned an amount of Rs 12.07 crore for the victims of Gurgaon and Pataudi area, out of which cheques of compensation were distributed to 42 victims today," Haryana government said in a release.
National Minorities Commission Chairman Naseem Ahmed distributed the cheques at a programme held in Gurgaon.
Former Secretary of Union Urban Development Ministry L M Mehta, Deputy Commissioner T L Satyaprakash and Commissioner of Police Sandeep Khirwar were also present.
Deputy Commissioner said that compensation to about 150 victims of Gurgaon and Pataudi area was cleared by the Commission, based on which the state government has sanctioned the amount.
Rest of the victims belonging to the area would be handed over the cheques soon, he said.
The Tribunal also disposed of two more claims arising
out of the same accident in which it also awarded compensation to the claimants.
In one case, the Tribunal awarded a compensation of Rs 4,55,800 to Prakash Dandekar for the death of his wife Tai in the accident. She was 22 and worked as a labourer earning Rs 3300 per month, the Tribunal was told.
The Tribunal also awarded a compensation of Rs 4.50 lakh to the parents of Bhoye (24) who was driving the two wheeler. He worked as a driver and earned Rs 3300 per month, it was informed.
The claim for his death was lodged by Kisan Bhoye, 54 and Anandi Bhoye, 50 father and mother respectively.
