However, Shyam Kishor, who was apprehended on Sunday, told the court of judicial magistrate that he fears "threat and danger" to his life while being taken to Thane in Maharashtra on remand.
He is wanted by Vithalwadi police station in Thane district in connection with the murder case.
"Applicant submits that he has threat and danger to his life during the transit period and therefore requests this court to direct Thane Police to exercise extra precaution and protection while transporting him from Goa to Mumbai during transit period," Kishor told the court today.
According to police, he was living in Saligao with a changed identity for the last eight years.
He was convicted in the 1993 serial blasts case and has been on the run since 2003 after jumping the parole.
The gangster, who goes by the moniker of 'Black Scorpion', is also involved in 18 other major crimes, including the sensational JJ Hospital shootout of early 90s involving rival gangs of Dawood Ibrahim and Arun Gawli.
