According to officials of the Prohibition and Excise (Enforcement Wing), the cost of the seizure is around Rs two crore.
The arrested duo were smuggling the hemp to Tamil Nadu, they said.
"On a tip off, our officials intercepted a heavy vehicle at Uppa village. The ganja weighing 2,290 kgs was found stuffed in gunny bags hidden under a tarpaulin," said Assistant Commissioner of Prohibition and Excise (Enforcement Wing) SVVN Babji Rao.
He said a pilot vehicle was "escorting" the heavy vehicle so as to alert its occupants of any danger from the law enforcement agencies.
The officials seized an Eicher van, a motor cycle, cash worth Rs 24,000, and a mobile phone.
