2,800 police personnel to be deployed at Martyr's Day rally

Around 2,800 police personnel would look after security at the venue of tomorrow's Martyr's Day rally in the Esplanade area of the city.
Apart from that 23 deputy commissioners, around 60 assistant commissioners, 160 inspectors along with over 400 sub-inspectors and armed guards, 450 assistant sub-Inspectors, and 200 women police personnel would be on duty, a senior officer of Kolkata Police said.
"We are expecting a huge crowd at tomorrow's rally. Supporters have already coming to Kolkata from across the state. And for that we are going in for a foolproof security arrangements in and around the venue in front of the Victoria House tomorrow," the senior officer said.
The July 21 rally is an annual programme organised by the Trinamool Congress to commemorate the 1993 Kolkata firing.
Radio Flying Squads and Heavy Radio Flying Squads would be deployed to thwart any disruptive activity while around 13 ambulances have been kept ready while six giant screens put up around the venue.
Buses by which supporters and party activists would come to the venue would be parked in front of the Eden Gardens and adjacent Babughat area.
Bomb Disposal Squad and Dog Squad of the city police would also be present whereas policemen in plainclothes would also be posted in and around the area.
LED screens were coming up at near the Jyoti cinema hall and the Y-channel atop mobile vans, besides, spots near the Grand Hotel, Chandni Chowk Metro station, Dorina Crossing and also near the Park Street, he said.
