2 Delhi Police personnel named for President's medal
Press Trust of India New Delhi Twenty Delhi Police personnel have been selected for prestigious police medals, including two for the President's Police Medal for Distinguished Service, while a constable who laid down his life in the line of duty has been awarded a posthumous Gallantry Medal.
The awardees include 17 personnel who have been conferred with the Police Medal for Meritorious Service on the occasion of Republic Day.
Joint Commissioner (PHQ) Dependra Pathak, and DCP (Rashtrapati Bhavan) Hari Mohan Meena have been awarded the President's Police Medal for Distinguished Service, an official statement said today.
Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Surender Singh Yadav, DCP Sanjay Kumar Tyagi, who is SO to Delhi Police Commissioner BS Bassi, ACP Bhola Ram Mann, SI Gokul Ram and HC Ramesh Singh are among those who have been awarded the Police Medal for Meritorious Service.
The Police Medal for Gallantry was awarded posthumously to Constable Bijender.
Bijender was on patrolling duty with two of his colleagues in Kamla Market on the intervening night September 10-11, 2012, when a man with a stab wound approached them and pointed towards four boys whom he said had beaten him up and stabbed him during a scuffle.
As the trio tried to nab the assailants, one of them attacked Bijender with a knife and stabbed him in the chest. Despite suffering a life-threatening injury, Bijender did not loosen his grip on the alleged assailant whom he had managed to catch before two more policemen arrived on the spot and all the attackers were nabbed.
Bijender and another constable were taken to LNJP Hospital where the former was declared dead.
