Two persons were arrested from Odisha's Bolangir district today in connection with the abduction of a Kolkata-based businessman, a day after he was rescued by a police team from here.
While Mukund Nag and Sidharth Kamle were arrested from Kantabnjhi, efforts are on to nab five others including the main accused in the case, Sundergarh SP Nikhil Kanodia told reporters here.
Pratik Patodia, promoter of Kirei based Ashoka Multi Yarn Limited (AMYL), and his driver Rohit Tanty were abducted on June 22 from Badbahal while on way to his textile plant near Sundergarh town here, police said.
Kanodia said that main accused Anil Bansal, believed to have business rivalry with Pratik, had been to Kolkata two days before the abduction and had kept track on the movement of Pratik.
There he came to know about Pratik's scheduled visit to Kirei by road after reaching Jharsuguda on the morning of July 22 by train and accordingly planned the abduction.
Narrating the sequence of events, Kanodia said Pratik, who was rescued from Kantabanjhi, was initially taken to Amarkantak in Chattisgarh and kept in a guest house there till July 23.
On July 24, he was brought to Kantabanjhi, where Bansal stays even as Bansal went underground as the police pressure mounted.
In a breakthrough for the police, on July 26 evening, driver Rohit managed to escape from their clutches and reached Jharsuguda and sleuths picked him up.
Subsequently, police caught Sidharth and rescued Pratik. The same evening Mukunda was also nabbed, Kanodia added.
