The major fire broke out at Kedar Road burning to cinder over 300 bamboo huts of slum-dwellers along the railway tracks killing two infants late last night, the sources said.
The blaze was doused by the fire tenders after battling with the inferno for two hours, they said, adding the cause of the fire and the extent of damage was yet to be ascertained.
The local people claimed that the fire began from one hut and spread to the other huts within a very short time gutting all huts within an hour.
Meanwhile, the Kamrup Metropolitan district administration has ordered a probe into the cause of the fire.
