Sudhir, an Army jawan accompanied by his brother Amit, were going back to his village when he saw a woman in the clutches of the bandits last evening, SP Jagdish Sharma said.
They tried to save the woman by accosting the robbers upon which Sudhir was shot in head and stomach, he added.
Bachcho Singh, a villager harvesting in the nearby field, who also rushed to the spot on hearing the noise too was shot when he tried to nab the robbers.
Later Sudhir was shifted to Anand Hospital in Meerut, they said.
SHO Shikapur Shyamveer Singh has been suspended in the matter and investigation into the matter is on, he said.
