"Two men, with their face covered, came on a motorcycle and barged into the office of builder Sumit Chakravarti at around 3.30 PM yesterday. They fired two rounds inside the office in a bid to get extortion money which was demanded by dreaded gangster Suresh Pujari," Thane Police spokesperson Sukhada Narkar said.
Sumit is also the President of the Ulhasnagar Trade Association.
"Pujari had made a demand for ransom from the builder and his son Aakash. When the duo, did not heed to his demand, he sent his men to his office. Both Sumit and his son were not present when the firing took place. One of Sumit's staff member escaped unhurt," Narkar said.
A case under section 307 (attempt to murder) and other relevant sections of IPC and the Arms Act was registered against Pujari and the duo at the Central Police Station, Narkar said, adding, an investigation is on.
