"The primary investigations showed that the terrorists were riding a motorcycle while carrying the bomb which fell and exploded turning them into pieces early today, an official source from the Security Directorate of Fayoum said.
The security forces rushed to the area, located southwest of Cairo, and currently searching for other potential bombs.
Attacks targeting police and military increased after the ouster of Islamist ex-president Mohamed Morsi in 2013.
Over 500 security personnel have been reported killed since then.
