A man and his associate were today arrested by police for allegedly impersonating Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav's son Prateek Yadav and calling state ministers for getting contracts.
Ram Shankar Shakya and Firaq Hussain were arrested by the police from Hazratganj area here on charges of using a mobile number purchased in the name of Prateek on address of 5, Vikramaditya Marg, the official residence of Mulayam Singh Yadav, police said.
State Mining Minister Gayatri Prasad Prajapati had registered a complaint at Gautampalli Police station when he got a call from Shakya, who claimed himself to be Prateek and asked him to provide mining work to some person.
When police inquired about the number, they found that it was taken on a fake identity proof of Prateek after which they swung into action and arrested the accused, who was also found to be presenting himself before others as IAS officer.
Shakya also used to call in the name of UP cabinet minister Shivpal Yadav to party ministers and officers for getting his work done, police said.
A number of fake IDs including Shakya's identity card as IAS officer and documents regarding transfer and appointment of government employees were recovered from his possession.
Besides Gautampalli police station, two FIRs are also registered against Shakya at Hazratganj police station, by one Rajan Gupta, from whom he had allegedly taken Rs 15 lakh for getting mining contract in Jalaun and Rs 10 lakh for facilitating the reopening of a sealed building in Agra.
Police are further probing the matter, officials said.
