An opium inspector and a contractual computer data operator posted at the Narcotics Control Bureau here were arrested for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 1.15 lakh, an official said Tuesday.

The accused persons took the money from around nine farmers in Jhalawar and Baran districts, said Additional Superintendent of Police, ACB, Chandrasheel Thakur.

Based on a complaint lodged by a farmer based in Atru town, a probe was initiated in the matter, he said.

The accused persons, identified as Vipin Gupta and Pankaj Panchal, were arrested by sleuths at the Anti-Corruption Bureau, Thakur said.

In 2004, the licenses of the opium farmers were suspended by the state government but in 2018, they were again renewed, he said.

Gupta picked up the list of farmers whose licenses were to be renewed and demanded money from them.

He had demanded a bribe of Rs 20,000 from each of the farmers
