2 police personnel killed in Assam road accident

Two police personnel were killed in a road accident in Baksa district of Assam on Sunday when their vehicle collided head-on with a tractor.

Baksa Superintendent of Police Binoy Kalita said Sub-Inspector, Denagra Brahma and driver-constable, Bijon Uzir, of Gobardhana Police Station died on the spot, while four civilians were also injured in the accident.

Baksa Deputy Superintendent of Police, Siddhi Kr Baruah, said the SI had gone out at about 5 am taking his driver with the four persons, including a source, after getting information of a theft truck.

"While coming back, the accident took place just 500 metres before the police station.

A tractor laden with stones collided head-on with the SUV carrying the team," Baruah said.

The impact was such that the vehicle overturned, the roof was completely damaged and the entire unit became a mangled piece of metal.

Brahma was investigating the disappearance of a truck laden with iron rods, which was coming from Haryana, near Simlaguri outpost, the DSP added.

The injured have been admitted to hospital.
