Punjab Pardesh Congress General Secretary Sonu Jafar today alleged that last evening two Inspectors Arwinder Singh and Harinder Singh "conducted a raid in the camp office on the pretext of searching for two culprits who were involved in the theft of cement bags".
He claimed that heated arguments ensued between the police team and Congress leaders in the office.
"Foul language was used by the two Punjab policemen. They could not find anything from the spot. We took strong objection to the manner in which they carried out this raid and later the matter was reported to the Congress high command," he said.
Srivastava also denied any heated arguments or misbehaviour by the police team with the Congressmen.
He, however, said the two cops have been shifted to police lines and an inquiry has been ordered.
Congress MLA Raj Kumar Verka also condemned the alleged "raid" by Punjab Police in the camp office, and said that cops came at the behest of a SAD councillor, who was accompanying them.
He alleged that still some "black sheep" were working in the Punjab Police and acting on the behest of SAD.
"The CM as well as Punjab Police DGP have been informed about the incident," Verka said.
Singh's camp office was set up during the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.
He was elected as MP from Amritsar Lok Sabha seat in 2014 but resigned from the seat last year on Satluj-Yamuna-Link canal issue.
He was named as the chief ministerial candidate by the Congress for 2017 Punjab Assembly polls held in March this year.
Singh contested from Patiala assembly segment and later took oath as the Chief Minister in March this year when Congress stormed to power in the State.
