2 women cops manhandled in police station
Press Trust of India Palghar Three police personnel, including two women cops, were allegedly manhandled by two relatives of an accused in a case at Virar police station in the district.
On Thursday evening, the accused was brought for interrogation to Virar police station, inspector S B Mane said today.
As the interrogation of the accused was in progress in the crime detection room, two of his relatives barged inside and started shouting at the police personnel present there. The duo allegedly told the police that they were journalists and also warned them of dire consequences, he said.
Later one of them allegedly abused a woman police constable present in the room and held her by her hair and dragged her, he said.
When another woman cop tried to rescue her, the other relative of the accused allegedly bit her on the cheek, Mane said.
Subsequently, another male police naik who tried to rescue his two colleagues was also manhandled by the two persons, he said.
Offence have been registered in this regard under IPC sections 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty), 324, 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and 506 (criminal intimidation) read with 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention), he said.
Further probe was on into the matter.
