A local court today directed the police to investigate a complaint against former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and ex-SSP Srinagar Ashiq Bukhari over the killing of 120 persons during the summer agitation of 2010.
"Complainant and his witness though have substantiated the allegations contained in the complaint but the allegations contained in the complaint are serious in nature and requires to be proved further in order to arrive at conclusions about truthfulness or otherwise of the same," Chief Judicial Magistrate Srinagar V S Bhou said in his two page order.
Bhou passed the order on a complaint filed by hardline Hurriyat Conference leader Ghulam Nabi Sumjhi seeking investigation against Omar and the then SSP Srinagar Ashiq Bukhari over the 120 deaths in security forces action during the 2010 agitation.
The court directed the SSP Srinagar to investigate the allegations and submit a report on or before April 6 when the case would come up for hearing again.
"I, therefore, postpone the issue of process of compelling the attendance of the persons complained against and direct an inquiry in terms of Section 202 CrPC to be conducted for the purpose of ascertaining the truth or falsehood of the allegations," the court said.
Bukhari, in an interview with a web portal, had reportedly hit out at Omar for "demonising" him during the campaign for assembly elections last year.
