Minister of State for Home R P N Singh informed Lok Sabha that a total of 96 BSF personnel took their life in the past six years in the eastern theatre.
The causative factors in most of the suicide cases were found to be generally the personal and domestic problems like marital discords, personal enmity, mental illness and depression, he said.
Singh, however, said in few cases, it could be due to work related stress.
To contain suicide cases by the paramilitary personnel, he said the government has taken a number of remedial measures including implementing a transparent, rational and fair leave policy.
