At least 220 HPU students associated with Students Federation of India were today arrested by police for defying prohibitory orders and creating public nuisance.
SFI members alleged that at least 17 students, including six girls, were injured in police lathicharge while they were courting arrest in the wake of police action against their leaders.
Eight students were on Wednesday booked for rioting and restraining entry to the campus and four SFI leaders were arrested.
The students today gave a call for "Court arrest" which evoked overwhelming response.
DSP Shiv Chaudhry, however, denied allegations of lathi-charge and claimed that the students indulging in stone pelting on cops were forcibly removed from the spot.
