23,000 flood victims rescued, 83 relief camps set up in Jammu

In the Jammu division 23,000 people have been rescued and 83 relief camps were set up for the flood victims, a senior officials said here today.
"The divisional dispensation has rescued and shifted about 23,000 people to safer places and 83 relief camps have been set up for the purpose", Jammu Divisional Commissioner Shantmanu said here.
"All relief and rehabilitation measures are being carried out on war footing to save the people from further loss besides vital services like power supply and road connectivity is being restored", he added.
Divisional Commissioner said that about 153 deaths were reported across Jammu division and efforts were on to trace the dead bodies of landslide victims in Panchari in Udhampur district and bus accident in Nowshera area of Rajouri district.
As many as, 20,000 houses have been partially or completely damaged while about 2,500 livestock have been perished, he said.
He, however, maintained that a comprehensive loss assessment is being carried out by the concerned authorities.
Divisional Commissioner said that about 75 tone food items have been sent to Kashmir besides the men and machinery in District Police Lines have been mobilised to deal with the situation.
IGP Jammu, Rajesh Kumar said that strenuous efforts are on to restore the road links within a week while National Highway has been restored for light motor vehicles.
He said that man power in police has been mobilised to assist relief and rehabilitation process and all the control rooms are functional round the clock for providing information to the people.
