CBI has registered 23 cases since 2010 to probe defence purchases which were suspected to involve kickbacks, Defence Minister A K Antony has said.
He said foreign companies are involved in six of these cases, including deals to purchase VVIP choppers for the air force from AugustaWestland, Tatra trucks for the army and reconnaissance and surveillance helicopters for the army.
No official of the ministry has been found guilty so far, he told Lok Sabha yesterday, replying to a question on shady defence deals.
Antony said as many as 15 firms, Indians as well as overseas, have been debarred by the ministry after they were allegedly found violating norms in their transactions.
Six of these firms had been banned from any business dealings for 10 years while others were barred for an indefinite period, he said.
Singapore Technologies Kinetics, Israel Military Industries, T S Kisan and Co of New Delhi, R K Machine Tools of Ludhiana, Rheinmetall Air Defence of Zurich and Corporation Defence of Russia were debarred for 10 years in an order issued in April last year.
Other nine firms were banned earlier.
Replying to a query regarding irregularities in the deal for procuring Active Towed Array Sonar for Indian Navy, he said some complaints were received and they are being look into. The contract has not been concluded yet, he said.
