A 24-hour shutdown in Sonitpur to protest against alleged army custodial death of a "militant" partly hit normal life in the Assam district.
According to officials, business establishments were closed at Gohpur, Biswanath Chariali, Naduar and some other parts of the Sonitpur district.
The bandh was called by some adivasi groups protesting the alleged custodial death of alleged Birsa Commando Force militant Sonagadi Nag.
The bandh was supported by Assam Tea Tribe Student Association, All Adivasi Student Association, Adivasi Mukti Sangram Samittee along with Birsa Commando Force and ceasefire group Adivasi Peoples' Army.
The family members of the Birsa Commando Force militant have filed an FIR alleging that he had died in army custody. The charge was countered by the Army which too has filed an FIR claiming that the BCF ultra did not die in its custody.
