The city Crime Branch today arrested 25 engineering students, including three women, who were found writing exam paper in the house of a Shiv Sena corporator.
All the students belonged to the same institute in the city and are studying in the third year. They were writing exam paper which was previously conducted on May 2.
"Acting on a tip-off that some students were writing exam papers at the residence of Sena corporator Sitaram Surey in Surewadi locality of Harsul region, the team raided the place," Crime Branch Inspector Madhukar Sawant said.
"The students were writing paper of Building Construction of General Civil Engineering and few other subjects," he said.
They had solved only one question at the exam centre and left the answer-sheet blank in order to write it here, said police.
Surey, meanwhile, said he had no idea that exam papers were being written in his house.
According to the engineering faculty members, the answer sheets are to be submitted to the examination department of the university on the same day but it is not clear as to why these papers were not submitted.
The university's director of examination and evaluation could not be contacted for reaction as his phone was switched off.
The university administration said that a meeting would be conducted and further action would be decided later.
