Thirteen accidents took place due to equipment failures while 11 accidents occurred due to sabotage, he said, adding another 24 accidents took place due to incidental factors.
Year-wise, Sinha said, the number of train accidents stood at 85 in 2014-15 that led to 162 casualties, while 71 accidents occurred in 2013-14, leading to 54 casualties.
In 2012-13, 69 train accidents led to 81 casualties, Sinha added.
