According to Chamba Superintendent of Police Virender Tomar, the tragic incident took place yesterday.
On the basis of a complaint lodged by one Jai Singh, a shepherd in the area, a case has been registered against the State Electricity Board under IPC sections 336 (act endangering life or personal safety of others), 427 (mischief), the SP said.
Four shepherds -- Trilok Chand, Surrender Singh, Trilok Nath and Jai Singh -- hailing from surrounding villages of Holi tribal sub-tehsil had gone to higher hills for grazing along with a herd of around 500 sheep and goats.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner of Chamba Sudesh Mokhta confirmed that 29 sheep and 2 goats were electrocuted by an electric pole near Luani hillside in Holi tribal terrain in the district.
Mokhta said that the revenue official of the area was directed to rush to the spot and take stock of the situation and provide an immediate relief to the affected shepherds whose livestock had perished.
So far, an immediate relief of Rs 20,000 has been disbursed to the affected shepherds, Mokhta said, adding that more relief would be given after assessing the actual losses caused to their livestock.
