The second round of the pulse polio immunisation campaign started across Haryana today with special emphasis on high risk areas like slums and isolated hutments to ensure that no child is left uncovered.
Booth activity was undertaken on the first day of the campaign, an official release said here.
The campaign will continue for another two days during which house-to-house activity will be undertaken to trace and administer polio drops to the left-out children.
"During the booth activity today, approximately 22 lakh, about 55 per cent children under five years of age, were administered polio drops," it said.
In order to smoothly carry out the campaign, a total of 16,261 booths were set up in the state.
These were manned by approximately 67,000 health officials, volunteers and Anganwari workers. About 3,300 officers and officials supervised the activity apart from independent monitors of the National Polio Surveillance Project and World Health Organisation, it said.
During the house-to-house round tomorrow, special attention would be paid to high risk areas like slums, isolated hutments, brick kilns, floating and migrating population and construction sites so that no child is left uncovered.
Approximate 1,500 mobile teams will work to cover all children in under served and poorly approachable areas, the release added.
