For the first time, an international rail coach expo, displaying rail coaches and train-sets, will be held in Chennai from tomorrow (May 17) to May 19, a statement from the railways said today.
Reputed rail car and equipment manufacturers will showcase their technology and products at the expo, which will be a unique platform to bring different suppliers under one roof and create synergy for "Make in India", the statement added.
"The expo is being hosted by the Integral Coach Factory, popularly known as the ICF, under the Ministry of Railways, in coordination with the CII (Confederation of Indian Industries) and RITES Ltd, a PSU under the Ministry of Railways," it said.
More than 100 participants from around 10 countries will display their coaches and train-sets, the statement said, adding that conferences and seminars on specialised subjects on rail coaches and train-sets will also be held.
The expo will also display rolling stock designs of train-sets for a speed of 160 kmph, including interiors, passenger amenities and other comfort features.
The inaugural function of the expo will be attended by the Tamil Nadu governor, the minister of state, railways, the industries minister of Tamil Nadu, the chairman of the Railway Board and other members, general managers and heads of other departments of the Indian Railways.
