B Daniel Sunil Kumar (38), A Ramakrishna (39) and P Dhana Raju (49) used to procure opium from interior parts of Odisha and used to sell it in Chennai, DCP (Crime) T Ravi Kumar Murthy said.
"The trio wanted to sell opium for at least Rs 5 lakh in Chennai but as the buyers were reluctant to pay the amount, they were returning to Vizag to sell the contraband in the city," he said.
Acting on a tip-off, police personnel intercepted their vehicle and seized the contraband from their possession, the officer said, adding investigations are underway.
