The incident occurred on Pandua-Mahanad road last night when some youths were allegedly drinking in front of a local club, the police officer said.
The police jeep challenged the youths and tried to take them to Pandua police station. An altercation broke out followed by a scuffle between the youths and the police.
In the melee, a mob of nearly 60 women from the village rushed to the spot with lathis. They damaged the police jeep, beat up the policemen and freed them. The youths then fled from the spot, the officer said.
Police reinforcements went to the village today and arrested three persons. Most of the male members have fled from the village, the officer said.
