3 postal employees get 1-yr imprisonment in bribery case

A special CBI court today sentenced three Postal staffers to one year rigorous imprisonment for accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 from a new recruit in 2007.
The Second Additional Special Judge for CBI cases N Ananda Rao found then Inspector of Posts, Chipurupalli Sub Division, Naramshetty Uma Maheswara Rao and the then mail overseers Palakodeti Shankara Rao and Nakka Appala Naidu (retd) guilty of accepting Rs 5,000 from the complainant.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 5000 on Naramshetty and Rs 3,000 each on Palakodeti and Nakka Appala.
The complainant, who had cleared the competitive exam, was asked to shell out the money for assuming the charge as the Post Master/ Grameen Dak Sevak of G Mulugam branch post office, police said.
The accused were convicted under various sections of IPC and Prevention of Corruption Act.
