3 Raj govt employees held for graft

Three government employees of the Sarwad municipality in Rajasthan's Ajmer district were arrested on Wednesday while taking a bribe of Rs 75,000, an ACB official said.

Executive engineer Deependra Singh, junior engineer Hari Singh and cashier Devendra Singh besides the chairman of the municipality Vijay Kumar had allegedly demanded money from a contractor to clear his pending dues, Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) DGP Alok Tripathi said.

The complaint was verified in September when Hari Singh accepted a self cheque of Rs 55,000 from the complainant, he said.

Deependra Singh too accepted Rs 40,000 whereas Kumar took Rs 36,000 through a middleman named Rajesh Sharma, Tripathi said.

Hari Singh was arrested while accepting Rs 55,000 while Deependra Singh and Devendra Singh were arrested as they were taking Rs 10,000 each, he said.

The residences of the accused are being searched and the role of remaining accused in the case is being investigated, Tripathi said.
