3 sentenced to five years RI

A local court today sentenced three persons, including a woman, to five years rigorous imprisonment for torturing and branding a 13-year-old maid servant with a hot iron in 2003.
Principal Sessions court judge Jayachandran also imposed a fine of Rs 4000 on Vanishree (45), her brother-in-law Seesaroo (44) and her brother Velas (43).
The three had tortured and locked the girl, whom they had brought from Chennai, in a room of their residence at Vazhapadi, 55 km from here, and branded her with a hot iron. The girl underwent treatment at the government hospital here and the three were arrested.

Police said the girl later committed suicide at Chennai in 2007.
