The child, identified as Raghav, fell into an open, dry borewell on Sunday while playing in his family's agricultural field at Har Gagoli village in Baghcheeni area, where he had gone with his grandmother, Morena Superintendent of Police Vineet Khanna said.
Soon after the boy fell into the borewell, his family members raised an alarm, following which rescue operation was launched to save him by supplying oxygen, food items and digging a parallel pit to pull him out, he said.
However, when the rescue team finally managed to take him out last night, it was too late, as doctors declared him dead at the district hospital.
A case was registered in this regard and further investigation was on, they added.
