As many as 300 residents of Bawara village of Bhitargaon town in Ghatampur have been admitted to various hospitals due to viral fever, an official said today.
50 of them are reported to be in serious condition, Chief Medical Officer Kanpur, Dr R P Singh Yadav said, adding that rest are being treated at the Community Health Centre (CHC) in the village.
Two health department teams are camping in the village and four ambulances have also been deployed for any emergency situation, the CMO, who was present at the village, said.
Denying claim of the locals that two elderly persons here died of the viral fever, he said that both were suffering from diabetes and kidney-related problems and were ill for longtime.
"These two deaths should not be associated with viral fever," he said.
The CMO said the patients were negatively tested for Malaria and he also ruled out they being suffering from dengue.
Villagers are undergoing tests for other diseases too, he said.
He said that scattered garbage and stagnant water in the village could be the reason behind the outbreak of viral fever.
Instructions have been issued to the concerned department for cleaning the area, he said adding that drug is being sprayed for malaria control and chlorine tablets are distributed among the residents.
