Union Minister Jitendra Singh today awarded certificates of appreciation to 34 central government ministries for implementing e-office in departments under them, according to an official statement.
The minister gave certificates of appreciation to the secretaries of these ministries and appealed to other departments and ministries to follow the same practice, and shift to e-office.
Singh, the Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, appealed to the state governments to adopt the practices of good governance.
E-office is one of the projects under Digital India programme which allows 'paperless' working.
The government intends to make all its departments paper-free in the near future, the minister said.
The Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DAR&PG) is the nodal department for implementation of e-office project. National Informatics Centre (NIC) is the technical partner in this project.
Since August 2016, DAR&PG is coordinating with all central ministries through rigorous review meetings on the status of implementation of e-office.
"As a result of this continuous and proactive monitoring, the level of ministries/departments on e-office has risen from six to 34. The number of active e-files has increased from 7,848 to 7,33,374," the statement issued by the personnel ministry said.
Departments of defence production, commerce, pensions and pensioners' welfare, food and public distribution, and shipping ministry have been given the certificate of appreciation by the minister.
