Senior Superintendent of Police K S Emmanuel said that during the period of 25 May to June 6, 78 bootleggers were arrested in 75 cases of smuggling and 2,268 bottles were recovered from them, in a special drive against crime.
Arun Gupta, who raped and killed a 6-year-old girl, has been booked under National Security Act (NSA), he said.
In 16 cases of gambling and betting, 78 were arrested and and amount of Rs 17 lakh, 43,957 was seized. 32 mobile phones, 4 calculators and 3 computers were also recovered in these cases, he added.
75 persons were nabbed for possessing illegal arms.
39 persons were booked under Gangster Act and 34 people, who have been absconding, were arrested, he said.
