36-yr-old man arrested for blasphemous act in Golden Temple

A 36-year-old man was arrested today for allegedly tearing the pages of a religious book in the marbled periphery of the Golden Temple here.
Jatinder Chadha was nabbed by the members of Task Force of SGPC when he was tearing the pages of Sukhmani Mani Sahib and was subsequently handed over to the police, Police Commissioner G Nageshwara Rao said.
He said during investigation it was found that the accused was a resident of Yamuna Vihar in New Delhi and was here to pay obeisance as he was suffering from psoriasis (skin disease) due to which he was also diagnosed patient of depression.
To cure the skin disease, Chadha, besides taking medicine, had been paying obeisance at different religious places, Rao said.
He said Chadha had arrived at Golden Temple on 29 December last year and started to perform selfless service to clean used utensils, brooming on marbled periphery of the holy place besides regular recitation of Sukhmani Sahib Paath with the belief that his disease would be cured.
Today, in a fit of depression, he, all of sudden, started tearing the pages of the religious scripture, he said.
A case under section 295 of IPC (injuring or defiling place of worship with intent to insult the religion of any class) was registered against him, police said.
