Frustrated over her husband's addiction to liquor, a 38-year-old woman allegedly killed her three daughters by setting them ablaze before immolating herself at a village in the district, police said.
Two of the girls, aged ten and 18, were killed on the spot while their 16-year-old sister died on way to hospital last night, they said, adding the woman succumbed to burns at the Rajaji Government Hospital in Madurai today.
The woman, wife of an autorickshaw driver of Karaikudi in Sivaganga District, took the extreme step following frequent quarrels with her husband over his addiction to liquor, police said.
Fed up with the daily quarrels, the woman left for her native place near Illanjambore near here with her three daughters. En route, she bought a can of petrol.
Alighting from the bus near Illanjambore last night, she poured petrol over the three girls and set them ablaze after which she set herself on fire, police said.
The woman was admitted to nearby Paramakudi Government Hospital last night and shifted to the Madurai hospital as her condition turned critical following which she died without responding to treatment, they added.
