Over 4,400 vehicles were fined and 140 were seized for violation of traffic rules in the last fortnight here, an official said today.
According to SP, Traffic of Rural Jammu, Shaheen Wahid, the traffic police also counselled the violators of rules before imposing fine on them.
"A total of 4,442 vehicles were challaned (fined) and 140 vehicles were seized in Jammu," the officer said.
As many as 435 vehicles were booked for overloading, 751 people were fined for not wearing crash helmets, 522 for not putting on seat belts, 501 for driving without a license, 26 for use of mobile phone while driving, 128 for overspeeding, 135 for using pressure horns and 134 commercial vehicles for having tape recorders fitted in those.
The traffic police in rural Jammu had launched special drives last month, under the supervision of Wahid, to ensure strict enforcement of traffic rules.
