4,721 emergency cases registered on Diwali festival in Gujarat

Medical emergency service cases rose on Diwali festival with the registration of 4,721 incidents across Gujarat state, including 118 fire incidents, Emergency Management and Research Institute (EMRI) officials said here today.
EMRI runs the 108 ambulance service in Gujarat which people contact in case of emergencies.
"A total number of 2,817 emergency cases were handled on October 23 on the day of Diwali festival, while 1,904 cases were registered till 3 pm today," EMRI Chief Operating officer Jaswant Prajapati said in an EMRI statement issued here today.
These cases include 118 incidents of fire due to crackers where EMRI provided the emergency 108 ambulance service, Prajapati said.

Emergency cases rose on Diwali include injuries (597), respiratory trouble (101),cardiac arrest (106), acute abdomen pain (204), animal bite (54) and others (658), the statement said.
Emergency cases, including injuries, either due to fire, road accident or clashes were registered in high numbers during Diwali celebration, Prajapati said.

This year, 150 cases were registered compared to last year's Diwali day, Prajapti said.
On Gujarati new year, which is a day after Diwali day, 1,904 cases were registered on October 24, while 1,730 cases were registered last year on November 4, he said.
Cases of respiratory trouble and need to provide emergency service to heart patients also rose due to noise and environmental pollution, he said.

Cases of uneasiness and alergies due to pollution or food allergy were also registered in large numbers, he said.
