Four colleges of Delhi University are likely to offer Bachelor of Vocation (BVoc) course in nine disciplines including tv programming, printing technology, web designing, editing and animation, from the next academic session.
The university's Academic Council (AC) has given a go-ahead to the Maharaja Agrasen College, Kalindi College, Jesus and Mary College, and College of Vocational Studies, in a meeting held yesterday.
"The proposal for offering these courses at the said colleges was passed by the AC. The same will now be sent to the University Grants Commission (UGC) for its approval and then the modalities would be worked out for their introduction," DU professor and AC member, Nachiketa Singh said.
While Maharaja Agrasen college has got an approval to offer two BVoc courses -- tv programming and news production; editing and animation, College of Vocational Studies has got a go-ahead to offer courses in software development and marketing retail.
The courses approved to be offered by Jesus and Mary college include healthcare management, IT and software development and retail management.
Kalindi College has been granted the permission to offer courses in travel and tourism, printing technology and web designing.
Breaking away from the regular arts, commerce and science streams, and recognising the need for vocational studies, the UGC had last year approved a three-year BVoc course.
Financial assistance of upto Rs 1.85 crore is also provided by the UGC to each of the colleges, which are approved to offer the BVoc programme as under the National Skill Qualification Framework.
