Four foreigners on a 'sail around the world tour' escaped unhurt when their boat was allegedly hit by a cargo ship off Kanyakumari coast and they reached a nearby coastal town today to repair the damaged vessel.
The four were on their way to Maldives from Sri Lanka when their 12-metre long boat was hit about 20 nautical miles off Kanyakumari around midnight yesterday, marine police said.
The boat suffered some damage but none was injured and they managed to reach Coalchel near Kanyakumari, about 700 km from here.
Martin (42) of Germany, Bruno (31) of Brazil, Antony Smith (65) of United Kingdom and Thierylo (48) a French citizen were questioned by Customs and Immigration authorities besides the marine police, Colachel Marine Police Inspector F Sahaya Jose told PTI when contacted.
They have come only to repair their boat. "Customs and Immigration authorities have also enquired them. Everything seems to be fine," he said.
After visiting Maldives, the sailors plan to go to Egypt.
